Caught faffing!
After yesterday’s 5.7 degrees, the water had ‘warmed up’ slightly to a balmy 5.8 degrees, which I think brought on a touch of complacency. My entry into the water was pretty good and it felt less cold than yesterday by some way. I also enjoyed the swim itself, which was pretty swift by my standards. So I think this created a slightly blasé attitude when I returned to the hut. I chatted with James who was working on a hut a few along from mine and generally took far too long getting changing. The ‘Afterdrop’ symptoms weren’t ones I had really experienced before; I have had the shivering and woozy loss of balance. No, this was just a slowing down of my bodily movements and a slight loss of normal logical actions. I didn’t really realise what was going on until I had almost reached the swimming pool on Promenade Way on my bike and realised that I didn't;t have my bag on my back. I had completed forgotten to put it on! So this livened me up a bit and a turned back and went to the hut to collect it and start off again for my homeward journey. There was some shivering as I unlocked the hut for the second time, but it soon passed once I hit the road again. So I will definitely be on the look out for faffing of that nature again!
