So this is what sub 6 degrees feels like!
After an 8 day break due to unfavourable high tides (being in the dark), I went back to the water today and experienced the coldest temperature that I have ever swum in. Previously in February 2020 I swam in 6 degrees of water, however today came in just under that at 5.7 degrees. As usual after a break the initial cold water shock was an interesting experience, but not as bad as I expected. I managed my post swim recovery pretty well and even managed to pick up some kind donations in the box outside my changing hut.
It has made me realise that it is highly likely, since it is only mid January, that the water temperature is going to head down below 5 degrees. And that is significant because the temperature must be 5 degrees or less to attempt an Ice Mile Qualifying swim. I will say more about this extraordinary challenge over the coming says if the temperature keeps heading down.
