Welcome to 2022!
A bright, sunny and rather lumpy start to the New Year. A lovely, unseasonably warm air temperature meant that the post swim experience was rather pleasant considering we’re in January. The recent warm spell has also raised the sea temperature a tad, with 6.8 degrees today.
A lovely group of people (22 in all) were swimming from Splash Point and there was also a group near Bateman’s Tower, swimming from the bays in front of Millionaires Row. It’s very good to see and hear of so many people taking advantage of the benefits of cold water swimming. Of course many people were wearing wetsuits, or at least neoprene gloves and socks/boots. However the cold water benefit is still worth it, according to many recent studies.
I am hoping to get three days in a row to make a decent dent in January’s 3000m challenge. The time for my usual 500m route was over 13 minutes today due to the choppy sea but no sign of any afterdrop. Just felt great to be back in the water.
