That was……….cold
Well it was the moment I have been waiting for. The opportunity to take the plunge in water cold enough for an ‘Ice Mile Qualifying Swim’ as defined by the International Ice Mile Swimming Association, which states that water must be below 5 degrees. So at 4.8 degrees this was the coldest water I have swum in so far. There was quite a strung current today and I was in the water longer than usual by almost 2 minutes and it definitely felt like that too! However I was delighted that several people stopped by the beach hut after the swim to take an info card and also to contribute to my donations box, which I place outside the hut where I change. I always feel slightly rude that I’m not able to spend more time talking to people and answering their questions about the challenger. However on days like today, my main focus is to beat that ‘After-drop’ count down and get on my bike and start generating some body heat before the shakes start! All in a good cause though and today I was pleased to be wearing my Samaritans T-Shirt. The work they are doing, particularly in these challenging and difficult times is vital. So thanks to all who have contributed so far.
