Hello Frozen Feet!
So another unplanned dip this morning in between meditations whilst “on retreat” with my dear friends at the Padmaloka Retreat Centre. After the morning session (0700 - 0830) I had the perfect window whilst the tide was sufficiently high to cycle down, complete my mandatory 250m and then get back in time for the final 1100 session of this weekend retreat which followed on from the week long one I did last week.
The air temperature was just 5 degrees and the water had dropped under 8 degrees for the first time this winter - although only just at 7.9 degrees. The cycle down warmed me up nicely though so I felt much more comfortable in the water and there was no sign of my old friend “After-drop” today. I also had much less intensity in my hands when I got out of the water, however this was the first time my feet have properly put in an appearance.
I initially noticed how my walk back to the hut after I got out of the water was slightly less co-ordinated than normal. Then the throbbing began as my size 10s made their presence felt. Slightly interesting trying to get them into the toe clips on my bike for the ride back but by the time I made it home I was no longer walking like someone under the influence.
Happy days!!
