Challenge Complete!
I’m delighted to say that after my 250m swim today, my second swim in March, I have now officially completed this winter’s Polar Bear Gold Challenge. It was a beautiful day and I managed to capture the whole escapade on video thanks to towing my son’s camera behind me on a training float, which didn’t capsize - unlike my previous attempts. I was very grateful to my friend Jenny, who had swum with me on Sunday, who came down to ‘mark the occasion’. Although I don’t need to swim any more this month, or for this challenge, my intention is to keep going throughout the month. And with face to face restrictions still on track to be lifted on Monday 8th, I am hoping a few people will come and visit to watch one of my swims. All the dates I plan to swim are in the “Planned Swims” section of the website. I will produce a video of the swim, which will initially be provided to those who have subscribed to my monthly newsletter, but at some point the video will appear on the “Videos” section of the site.
I am full of gratitude to all those who have supported me in various ways, and below is just a few of those I would like to thank:
All those who have donated, through my VirginGiving page or by putting money in my donations box at the beach hut
David Playfoot, my friend who inspired me to choose the Samaritans as a beneficiary of all the donations
Everyone who has visited me to watch and give me encouragement - it really makes a difference when it’s very cold!
Richard Latto, from (the most listened to local radio show on BBC Sounds) Stereo Underground for providing me with musical inspirations and encouragement on his excellent show. You can listen to Richard talking about me here.
Booicore, for their excellent Death Metal Black Changing Robe. I really needed this in February
Mama Bear aka Pauline Barker, our leader, mentor and creator of the fantastic Polar Bear Challenge.
Tim Bees, who took some great footage of me swimming via his drone
And finally to Sandra, for (reluctantly at times it has to be said) supporting my latest crazy adventure. I know she feels concerned sometimes when the waves are rough and the water is cold. But as everyone knows…….I am always very careful and sensible ;)
I will continue to post up details of swims until the end of the month and am now eyeing up the criteria for the next challenge level up for next winter …….The Arctic.
