Smooth sea, shaky body!
A bright Sunday morning with lots of people on the prom and a nice smooth sea. Due to a recent drop in air temperatures and a couple of frosts, the sea temperature has also taken a little dip, coming down to 8.7 degrees, making it the coldest swim this winter so far. As always I was delighted to be joined by my intrepid friend Sagaradevi, whose Buddhist name means “Goddess with the qualities of the ocean”. Like me she also shuns the neoprene clothing range and swims in just her costume.
Since the sea was so calm, with only a 4mph gentle breeze I decided to go for a full 750m. This isn’t something I decide when I enter the water but a decision I make during the swim. I was feeling good and decided to complete the longer distance, which meant time in the water was just over 17 minutes. Inevitably my hands and feet numbed out completely and although I stuck to my efficient routine of drying and clothing my top half first, completing it all inside the ticking clock of the Afterdrop, it didn’t stop me from getting seriously shaky. The slight consolation was that Sagaradevi suffered the same fate and we both shook all the way to the Lido Cafe for a well earned hot chocolate - thank you Michelle, Suzanne and Katie for being there for us and offering sympathy for quivering!
Smooth chilly Sunday
