Questioning my sanity

Another temperature drop, this time down to 4.5 degrees, had several passersby questioning my sanity. Even I wonder sometime! I have already reached the distance target for January, so these swims are, well, I guess they’re for fun! So I can imagine someone asking the question.

The wind was south-westerly but with no rain; it was quite a pleasant swim. My goggles didn’t do the best of jobs today and I wonder whether the cold is a factor in them staying water tight. The recent rough seas have caused the position of the buoys that I swim amongst to shift, so it can be quite important to sight where I am and the direction I’m heading. Bumping into a buoy or its anchor chain is something I want to avoid.

I smiled, at one point, after catching the beginning of the classic film Jaws the other day, I ended up watching the rest of it this morning before I headed for the sea. Of course, our waters are too cold for sharks, even in the summer, at least they have been, so it was just my imagination having fun this morning.
