Big tide helps breach of 3000m for January
Quite an impressive high tide today with some beautiful sunshine and another 500m ticked off. The water temperature was up slightly at 5.1 degrees and there was a lot of seaweed about. It was also good to see quite a few swimmers the other side of Bateman’s Tower, many just in swimming costumes. As usual I cut a solitary figure along the top of the prom.
The sun was very welcome although a late afternoon sun does create havoc with my ability to see where I’m going on the return leg as I swim directly into it! Nevertheless, another 500m took me over the 3000m target required for the Arctic Polar Bear Challenge. So that’s now three of the five months completed.
I’m now on an enforced break due to the time of the high tides meaning it will be too dark to swim. Looking at the mid range weather forecast it looks like when I get back in the water we may well be having a warmer spell, so it’s possible that we’ve had the coldest water this winter. Only time will tell.
