The imperfect combination

Last day of January, marking the completion of three months of this winter’s challenge. For reasons that I’m never 100% sure of, my googles decided to mist up and managed to let in some sea water today. Most of the time that happens it’s really not a big deal. However, as I turned at the 250m point to swim back to the hut, the sun managed to come strongly through the clouds, leaving me almost blind. I had to lift my head a good way out of the water just to see the buoys to ensure I didn't clatter into any of them. Since the recent storms there are now two buoys in the channel where I swim, which form a bit of a gate, that I need to negotiate. In normal conditions, it’s absolutely fine, but when I can’t see too well and I’m swimming directly into waves from the north-westerly 16mph breeze, it becomes a more technical swim.

However, I managed it and leave January behind having clocked up another 6,750m. The total so far is now 21,100m or just over 13 miles. Just two months to go.

Here comes the sun…
